Filtering Chemically Reactive Agents

Chemically reactive agents run the gamut from acids to alkali and from oxidizing agents to transition metals. Most chemical agents require a liquid medium for contact with the fibers and begin their attack at the surface. Therefore, filter fabrics require a surface finish that limits contact with the fibers and blocks penetration to protect the fibers beneath.

Starting with the right fabric for the job, (see Temperature and Chemical Resistance charts), the next step is choosing a protective coating to maximize service life. Shaffer offers the ultimate in fabric protection in Unipore expanded PTFE (Teflon) membrane. Applied to the surface of a woven or felted fabric, the 100% Teflon surface repels all water borne chemicals, prevents surface adhesion and is immune from attack by chemicals*. For specific applications using felted fabrics, Shaffer also offers PTFE impregnation, acid resistant or acid resistant plus Oleophobic finishes.
